Why are good nanny cams so expensive?
Of course there are cheap ones out there, like the X10 stuff and cameras that are shipped directly from China, usually found in e-bay. But we are talking about spying on someone who is totally responsible for the well being of your child while you are away. When you do it, you’ve got to do it right at the first time and right away.

I get many calls from customers saying “call me stupid, but I don’t know anything about nanny cameras….” If you call a seller and if they will not answer or if they do not really explain how all this work, you are taking a chance because their main interest is money, not your child. A bad case would be spending your money on a system you are not too sure about and when you get it does not really work, the worse case then be your nanny suspecting of the camera, and the worst case being firing your nanny and searching for another one.

We buy components from vendors in Asia and we hide them here in various objects that will blend in at your home. Yes, we can order 10,000 ready-made nanny cameras from China and distribute it at low price, like Sharper Image, but nannies are not stupid, they can read catalogs. Besides, we can make much better nanny cams, it just that labor cost here in USA isn't cheap.

Know what you need.
Make it simple. Some people ask for a nanny cam that does everything, such as Internet viewing, 8 cameras to cover all your rooms, PDA & cell phone access etc. It is possible but before you over do it please consider following.

1)       I’ll be expensive and complicated.
2)       Can you monitor your child over the Internet and really do your job at work? That seems to defeat the purpose.
3)       This is a temporary operation. It’s not like the movie “The Truman Show”. You will know what kind of a person she is in less then 1 wk and make a decision to keep her or let go.
4)       You do not have to watch her in every corners of the house. Place one or two nanny camera in place where your child might be at the most.
5)       Place the nanny camera before or right after you hire a nanny. After awhile, she’ll get used to the surroundings and it’ll be more difficult to use the nanny camera then.

- Since consumer based recorders cannot record upon motion detection, more time & effort is needed when you review the recording.
- Cameras are wireless in video but not in power. You have to change the battery every day or you have to plug in the power to an outlet. So you cannot just hang it up somewhere, you have to hide it.

Nanny cameras are not used to fire your nanny, rather to keep them for a long time under your control. 
Mishaps usually do not happen on the first day rather it builds up over time.
